Suppl material to ISE - New species of Pronophila and Lasiophila (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) butterflies from the Huancabamba Deflection endemism zone from a phylogenetical perspective based on target enrichment data

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Two distinctive, new species of the satyrine subtribe Pronophilina, Pronophila freitasi sp. nov. and Lasiophila lalka sp. nov. are described from the western slopes of the Andes in northern Peru. A preliminary phylogeny of the two genera based on target enrichment data is presented. The discovery of two new species underlines the importance of the region of the Huancabamba Deflection as a centre of endemism of cloud forest butterflies.
