Pathways to Health: A Community-Based Approach to Youth Well-Being and Substance Use Disorder Prevention in Granville Vance Counties
Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: This project addresses youth well-being and substance use disorders (SUD) among individuals aged 12 to 18 in Granville and Vance Counties by focusing on the Social and Community Context domain of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Using local health data, resource mapping, and stakeholder input, the proposal highlights the relevance of this SDOH in addressing SUDs and presents evidence of its impact within this demographic. It also includes recommendations such as establishing youth centers with mental health and recreational services, implementing comprehensive substance use education in schools, and subsidizing transportation to healthcare. This strategic framework aims to prevent youth SUDs by addressing upstream factors, fostering resilience, and promoting equitable health outcomes in these communities.
