Year: 2024
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: In September 2018, the health insurance program called Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched in India. It attempts to increase underprivileged people's financial access to healthcare services nationwide. The PM-JAY program has been designed to be flexible at the state level, allowing each state to customize and deploy it in accordance with its particular health infrastructure and needs. The primary influences on the implementation of PM-JAY in three different Indian states are examined in this study, with an emphasis on issues of competency, organizational structure, and leadership styles. Eligible beneficiaries of this program visit participating hospitals for medical attention. They can receive coverage for a variety of inpatient operations, including about 1,400 medical treatments, if their eligibility is confirmed using government databases. Along with being covered for up to three days, pre-hospitalization services are also covered, as are post-hospitalization treatment for a total of 15 days. Hospitals are only granted PM-JAY empaneled status after passing strict infrastructure and staffing requirements, guaranteeing they can offer beneficiaries high-quality care.
