Veridical, B-Theoretic Passage: a Minimalist Picture

Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: It is widely held that we experience something called the “passage of time”. This experience is often taken to count as evidence in favor of the A-theory of time, since, allegedly, only the A-theorist can appropriately account for an experience of passage. In this paper, I argue that this is not so. Rather, the B-theory has all of the theoretical resources necessary not only to account for and explain our experience of passage but to do so veridically. To show this I articulate just such a veridical, B-theoretic account, motivate it, and then argue that it is preferable to other existing accounts in the literature.
