Concept of a matrix headlight control loop for enhanced object detection in automated driving

Abstract: The contribution at hand proposes a novel concept of a control loop for matrix headlights so that the illumination of the environment is varied to enhance the detection of objects for computer vision while considering a trade-off with the headlight energy consumption. The definition of the control error is especially discussed since one challenge of the control loop lies within the combination of object detection quality and energy consumption, which shall represent desired behaviors in each situation. Different control errors are proposed, and their advantages and disadvantages are evaluated in simulation.
