Abstract: Sim-to-real in reinforcement learning (RL) involves transferring models trained in simulated environments to real-world applications. The key challenge is bridging the gap between simulation and reality, as simulations often can't perfectly replicate real-world conditions. Zero-shot or direct transfer is the most straightforward approach, where a model is directly applied to the real world after training in a simulator. This method can be supported by system identification, which builds precise models, and domain randomization, which introduces variability in simulations to improve generalization. However, challenges like accurately simulating visual data and accounting for variations in physical parameters remain significant. Techniques like domain adaptation further help in adjusting the model to perform well despite these differences, ensuring more effective and robust sim-to-real transfers.
