Eyes on the Beat: Understanding the Role of Visual Reflexes in Music Perception
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Music is often seen as an auditory experience, a journey led by the rhythm of sounds and melodies that resonate in our ears. However, anyone who's attended a live concert or watched a music video knows that music is also a profoundly visual experience. From the hypnotic sway of musicians on stage to the dynamic interplay of lights, colors, and movements, our visual system plays a powerful role in how we perceive and feel music. But what exactly is happening when our eyes “join the beat” and react to music? Let's explore the fascinating relationship between visual reflexes and music perception.
