Issues in Dialogue among World Religions: Interfaith Dialogue, its Needs and Implication in the Contemporary World
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This systematic review examines the issues surrounding dialogue between world religions, highlighting the need for interfaith dialogue, its implications, and its merit in the contemporary world. A comprehensive analysis of over 30 studies reveals that interfaith dialogue is essential for promoting mutual understanding and respect between different religious communities, resolving conflicts, and fostering cooperation. However, linguistic and cultural barriers, theological differences, and political tensions pose significant challenges to effective dialogue. Despite these challenges, interfaith dialogue offers numerous benefits, including promoting peace and harmony, social cohesion, and inclusivity. The review highlights the importance of effective communication, willingness to listen and learn, and a deep understanding of different religious perspectives to overcome the challenges facing interfaith dialogue. The findings underscore the merit of interfaith dialogue in promoting peaceful coexistence and resolving conflicts peacefully, making it a vital tool for building bridges between different religious communities in the contemporary world.
