Abstract: Summary. The article analyzes some works of Elena Bontea’s from the collection of the National Museum of Art of Moldova. The artist established herself in the artistic field in the 1960s with paintings made in different stylistic manners: academic – “Portrait of a man”, but also with a decorative touch – “Mother”. The entire creation of the artist is characterized by the search for new procedures. All the plastic artists of the time were concerned with this originality and innovation in the visual arts: Mihai Grecu, Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, Igor Vieru, Ada Zevin, Sergiu Cuciuc et al. At the end of the same decade he resorted to the decorative treatment of forms, the use of bright colors in a Fauvist manner. Always in the vanguard, Elena Bontea manages to establish herself in the national visual arts during seven decades in which she delights the eyes of admirers with new and original creations.Key words: Elena Bontea, painting, stylistic manner, decorative stylization, composition, color range.
