Abstract: This article is devoted to the characteristics of one of the main female characters represented in the Vinland sagas – Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir. This character is the image of an ideal pious Christian woman, characteristic of the so-called. exemplum – varieties of fictional storytelling characterized by moralizing narratives, real or fictional, which were used as typical models for illustrating events and facts. It is to this kind of literary genre that the story of Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir, presented in the Vinland sagas, belongs. Such a story could be used to preach to the laity what virtuous Christian women should be.
