Physical Facilities Management and School Safety in Tagum District

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This study assessed the extent of physical facilities management and its influence on school safety in public schools within the Tagum District, Tagum City Division. Employing a non-experimental descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected through an adapted survey instrument administered to a randomly selected sample of teacher-respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (Mean scores), Pearson's correlation coefficient (Pearson r), and Simple Linear Regression Analysis. Results indicated that the extent of physical facilities management, including processes establishment, facilities upkeep and improvement, technology integration, and personnel support, was moderately extensive. Similarly, school safety, measured by water and sanitation facilities, building and classroom conditions, and playground and parking space safety, was also moderately extensive. A significant positive correlation was found between physical facilities management and school safety in Tagum District schools. Specifically, all aspects of physical facilities management—supporting personnel, establishing processes, improving facilities, and integrating technology—significantly influenced school safety. Future research could explore the effectiveness of safety protocols and emergency response strategies, investigate the impact of environmental factors such as air quality and lighting on school safety and well-being, and examine the role of technology in enhancing school safety and security.
