Health and Well-Being in Boarding Schools A Comprehensive Analysis of Student Experiences
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Boarding schools are very special environments that influence the students' physical, mental, and sexual health. This study analyzes almost all aspects of the wellbeing of students at STEM High School for Boys-6th of October, in addition to dietary intake, physical activity, levels of stress, and sexual health education. Results showed that the average calorie intake by the students is about 5,500 kcal daily, it contains a high quantity of carbohydrates and fats with very little intake of protein; therefore, long-term health complications can occur. Physical inactivity because of pressure from academic atmosphere also contributes to metabolic and cardiovascular problems. Additionally, psychosocial mental stressors in their life after entering the school result in anxiety, homesickness, and sometimes in self-medication without any medical assistance. Sexual health education is still inadequate, leading to more misinformation and risks associated with possibly unsafe behavior. By comparing these findings with prior research, this study recommends policy adjustments in nutrition, physical health facilities, mental health support, and sex education in boarding schools. Evidence-based recommendations from the study may be helpful in developing a more balanced and health-supportive environment for the students.
