UN Peace Power Operations Kosovo Intervention Example

Abstract: Prior to discussing the UN Kosovo mission, we must first analyze the characteristics of peacekeeping operations. UN peacekeeping operations are measures implemented by the Security Council, a principal instrument of the United Nations. Peacekeeping operations arise as a tool in response to threats to the peace and security outlined in Chapters 6 and 7 of the United Nations Charter. In the first phase, when peace and security are jeopardized, the nations involved in the disagreement, as outlined in Chapter 6 of the UN Charter, endeavor to settle the conflict by a "ad hoc" approach. If the conflict remains unresolved and peace and security are jeopardized, the measures outlined in Chapter 7 are promptly enacted by the UN Security Council. Five nations has veto power in the UN Security Council. The nations are France, England, Russia, China, and the United States. Despite the veto powers held by these five nations, the USA has intermittently overlooked their authority and executed several operations. For instance, during the Korean War in 1950, it took a strategic decision in conjunction with the General Assembly to circumvent China's veto. Likewise, during the Kosovo campaign in 1999, it circumvented Russia's veto and conducted bombardments in conjunction with NATO. Despite the President of the Republic of Turkey articulating a critique of the dominance of five nations in the international system at a 2014 conference, asserting that "the world is now bigger than five," I dissent with this perspective. The USA played a pivotal role in the founding of this organization, effectively positioning itself as its leader. The USA has the most debt to the organization, namely the social and economic council, and has not faced penalties, although Brazil and Argentina, ranking second and third in debt respectively, have been subjected to several sanctions. From an alternative viewpoint, given the extensive involvement of the USA in Middle Eastern conflicts, my thesis is: the USA surpasses four. This study used a qualitative research methodology, supplemented by case studies, to elucidate the character of the peacekeeping mission, examine the causes of the Kosovo Serbian war, and analyze the system established by the UN in the area post-conflict.
