A3 Model in Hyperautomation, Autonomous AI, and Complex Systems Governance: A Contemporary Evaluation
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Rapid advances in AI and automation since 2022 have produced highly complex, partly autonomous systems that strain traditional governance and ethical frameworks (Gardiner & Li, 2023). Hyperautomation – the aggressive automation of as many processes as possible using AI, robotic process automation (RPA), and other tools – promises efficiency but brings opaque interdependencies and governance risks (Hoffman, 2024; Srivastava et al., 2022). Autonomous AI agents (from self-driving cars to decision-making algorithms) operate with minimal human oversight, raising concerns about alignment with human values, bias, and accountability (Acharya et al., 2025; Koenig & Patil, 2023). Meanwhile, complex systems governance (CSG) challenges (e.g., climate change responses, global digital networks) highlight the difficulty of steering distributed, unpredictable systems with traditional top-down controls (Centeno et al., 2024).
