Pepe the Frog, or How Thirty-Year-Old Girls Became the New Alt-Right Toads: Gender Dissonance, Radical Apathy, and Digital Degeneracy

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction: The Swamp of Digital Femininity In the third installment of our cultural dissection, we dive deeper into the psychosexual bog of post-socialist virtuality, where not only teenage incels and Pepe-obsessed edgelords dwell, but also a new, under-researched archetype: the thirty-something girl-baby with a smartphone and an affinity for tragi-ironic posts about knives, snakes, and being “trolled to death.” In the fetid algorithmic shallows of VK, Telegram, and Instagram, these figures have become not exceptions but avatars of a larger post-familial and apolitical degeneracy. They no longer seek love, meaning, or even sex; instead, they “kek” in the ruins, wrapped in ironic detachment, performative rage, and deviant femininity. This is not just loneliness. It is infantilized nihilism—both embodied and performed—where adulthood is refused not out of protest, but out of laziness. The performative femininity of the digital thirty-year-old girl merges seamlessly with the ideological swamp once associated with male radicalization. Except now, Pepe wears mascara.
