Abstract: ABSTRACT Cybercrime has surged globally, exploiting the interconnectedness of the digital age. India, with its rapid technological advancement, is a prime target for cybercriminals. This research delves into the nature, scope, and typology of cybercrime in India, examining the legal framework and enforcement challenges. The study analyzes secondary data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on cybercrime cases and arrests between 2002 and 2022. The analysis reveals a substantial surge in cybercrime cases and arrests in recent years, particularly those related to the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000. The paper explores the factors driving this increase, including the evolving nature of cyber threats, the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals, and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies. To address the growing threat of cybercrime, the paper proposes a multi-faceted approach that involves strengthening legal frameworks, enhancing law enforcement capabilities, promoting public awareness, and fostering international cooperation. By implementing effective strategies, India can significantly mitigate cyber threats, protect critical infrastructure, and safeguard its digital future.
