The Role of Klotho in Inflammation and Vascular Calcification in Chronic Kidney Disease
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that significantly impacts renal function and leads to a variety of complications, including vascular calcification (VC) and fibrosis. Recent studies have highlighted the potential role of the klotho protein in mitigating some of these pathological processes. Klotho is an anti-aging protein that has been implicated in regulating various physiological functions, including mineral metabolism, oxidative stress, and inflammation. This mini-thesis explores the dual role of klotho in regulating inflammation via the NF-κB pathway and its contribution to preventing VC and renal fibrosis in CKD.
