Abstract: : Idioms are fixed expressions with figurative meanings that play a vital role in language and communication. Idiomatic expressions are important in enriching language by providing meanings that go beyond the literal definitions of words. This article examines how idioms significantly influence lexical competence, highlighting that a strong grasp of idiomatic expressions broadens vocabulary, enhances cultural understanding, and improves the ability to communicate clearly and expressively. By defining idiomatic expressions and differentiating them from literal language, the article lays a groundwork for appreciating their importance in language mastery. This article also explores how learning idioms not only increases one’s vocabulary but also fosters deeper cultural insight, facilitating more effective and culturally aware communication.
