Type: article
Abstract: In contemporary times, indulging in social vices is very common, especially among teenagers. The paper employs qualitative research to reveal the necessity of how transformational leadership can help curb the prevalence of social vices among Christian teenagers. Social vices are all forms of abnormal, unethical, immoral and unacceptable behaviours in society, such as diverse crimes, varieties of addiction, drug abuse, alcoholism, cultism, gangsterism, examination malpractices, sexual violence and abuse, bribery and corruption, indecent dressing, violence, terrorism, among others. Involvement in social vices is high among teenagers. Evidence of these hazards is of various magnitudes, and they are called social vices. Some Christian teenagers are grossly involved in various forms of social vices, while the challenge is that some pastors or ministers working among these teenagers are finding it difficult to effectively minister to them in the manner they could be helped to shun social vices. It is on this basis that this paper focuses on employing transformational leadership as an approach to curb social vices among contemporary Christian teenagers. Transformational leadership is a leadership approach that causes transformation in persons and group systems. Transformational leadership, properly employed and applied, possesses the ability to reduce any form of social vices prevailing among Christian teenagers. Therefore, in order to provide the solution to the involvement of Christian teenagers in social vices, the paper discusses an overview of transformational leadership, social vices among Christian teenagers, and curbing social vices through transformational leadership among Christian teenagers. The writer recommends that teenage leaders such as pastrors and other lay leaders should be familiar with, embrace, and employ transformational leadership style to cause lasting transformation in the lives of the teenagers they minister to; intentional in applying transformation’s principles; and speaking against social vices when ministering to and leading the teenagers.
