Policy document on the role of seed transmission on viral disease spread to Europe
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Deliverable 4.2 investigated the possibilities for the long-distance dispersal of viruses via seed. We focused our work on the two fast spreading viruses in Europe: the tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) and tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV). We investigated both ‘seed-borne’ and ‘seed-transmitted’ nature of both viruses. The H2020 project VIRTIGATION - Emerging viral diseases in tomatoes and cucurbits: Implementation of mitigation strategies for durable disease management - has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101000570.
