Hotspots, refuges, and rising accessibility: mapping tropical hunting pressure across space and time

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The ZIP file contains all supplementary information associated with the article entitled "Hotspots, refuges, and rising accessibility: mapping tropical hunting pressure across space and time." All data included are freely available and can be used for reproducibility or further research. Below is a detailed description of each file: Dataset_of_hunting_sites.xlsx: Contains the dataset used to train the random forest (RF) models presented in the study. However, some sites are excluded due to non-disclosure agreements. hunting_pressure_XXX.tif: Raster layers of hunting pressure predictions for the years 2000 and 2015, provided in both calibrated (used in the paper) and uncalibrated forms (indicated with "_uncal.tif"). All rasters are freely available for use. Hunting_pressure_R_proj: R project containing the scripts used for constructing the RF models and selecting the optimal modeling strategy. These scripts are provided for informational purposes, as the original dataset used is partially restricted by non-disclosure agreements. Nevertheless, the provided Dataset_of_hunting_sites.xlsxcan be used as input data, bearing in mind that results may differ slightly. The results folder contains the original RF models generating predictions for the study, specifically located in results/full-workflow-ds/fold-XX.rds. Predictors_all_tropics_XXXX.RDS: Raster stacks in R format containing all predictor variables used for generating hunting pressure predictions across the tropics for 2000 and 2015. Supplementary_Table_1.xlsx: Statistical summary used in the study, providing the mean, standard deviation, and standard error for hunting pressure and its temporal change globally and for each tropical realm. Supplementary_Table_2.xlsx: Complete country-level results with metadata. Supplementary_Table_3.xlsx: Complete ecoregion-level results with metadata. All the analysis were done on R version 4.4.1 (2024-06-14) -- "Race for Your Life". Copyright (C) 2024 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing.
