Exploring The Anthelmintic Potential of Commonly Available Medicinal Plants: A Comprehensive Review

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Modern synthetic medicines are highly effective in treating diseases but often come with various side effects. In contrast, crude drugs are generally less potent in curing illnesses but tend to have fewer adverse effects. Parasites, particularly helminths, have been a significant concern in the medical field for centuries, affecting both humans and animals. Many medicinal plants are traditionally believed to have anthelmintic properties and are widely used by indigenous communities worldwide. Based on these traditional claims, numerous medicinal plants have been scientifically examined for their potential anthelmintic activity using various in vitro and in vivo methods. This review highlights key pharmacological studies and preliminary research on medicinal plants, their extracts, and bioactive compounds, which could serve as potential leads in developing novel herbal drugs.
