netCDF-Schema: A general purpose netCDF validation tool

Abstract: NetCDF validation is a pervasive issue when dealing with climate products and other datasets encoded using the format. Often this issue is solved several times at different points of the product pipeline, either by manual inspection or the use of bespoke software. Since there is not a clear, standard way of defining a netCDF product, several sources of truth (Documents, Excel files, checker programs, etc) may co-exist, leading to inconsistencies and duplication of efforts. In this context, netCDF-Schema aims to create a standard way of defining and validating netCDF products, providing a machine- and human-readable single source of truth.
