Survey Instrument: SURE and SES scales to measure electronic medical record (EMR) usability among clinician users
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This document contains the German and French language items of the SURE (System Usability and Risk Evaluation) and SES (Satisfaction, Efficiency, Safety) scales. SES contains three global rating items - assessing overall satisfaction with the EMR, overall system efficiency, and overall impact on patient safety. SURE is a set of 25 items designed to assess clinician perceptions of patient safety-related EMR usability across several domains, such as integration into workflows, navigation, cognitive load, and alert management. The scale’s purpose is to determine physicians' perceptions of the usability of their EMR in everyday clinical practice. The scales can be used to evaluate EMRs at the group, departmental, or hospital level. The scales were extensively tested and validated in a national survey study among physicians in Switzerland.
