Abstract: The article analyzes the internal and external factors that determined the life of Ukraine during the Directory era, based on the memoirs of V. Vynnychenko, B. Martos, and I. Mazepa. Attention is drawn to the personal context of the formation of domestic memoirs about the events of the times of the UPR Directory, the personal motivation for writing memoirs, and the degree of their objectivity is clarified.
