Poo-blication: Flowers, Turds, and Mathematics Education Research
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: I conclude my tenure as Editor-in-Chief with a psychoanalysis of the state of mathematics education research and academic publishing. The text particularly criticizes the current “epistemological moment” in 2025, the ways that our field’s discourse has contributed to it, and the ways in which ideology polices the work of the academic in their unconscious. In my analysis, I bolster previous claims of the sexual origins of education. I claim—by simply observing the current context—that revolution in educational research is only possible with the choice of a particular mindset; in this text, I describe my choice for this path forward as well as the desire that makes me choose it. I intend for the reader to “read in between the lines” of this text.
