Abstract: When we talk about world drama, we can see that it starts with Greece first, and when we talk about Tamil drama, we can see that Tolkappiyam is the first. The inscriptions indicate that Koothu occurred before drama. Koothu is said to have been performed with these elements, which are called Iyal, Isai, and Drama (Drama). Such Koothu is divided into North Arcot, South Arcot and South Kathi styles in Tamil Nadu. Thanjavur Koothu is included in the South Kathi style. In this, Koothu is performed ritualistically by Koothu artists living in Arsuthippattu, Nardevankudikadu and the surrounding villages of Thanjavur. Irani Koothu has been performed continuously for more than six generations in Arsuthippattu village for the last 376 years. This article describes the artistic contribution of S. Muthukrishnan, who has come into this continuous Koothu tradition.
