The Pattern Gospel: ℘-Optimization and the Thermodynamics of Coherent Complexity
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: We present a first-principles derivation of ℘ ≈ 0.8 (the "Pareto Attractor Constant") as the universal coherence threshold for sustainable complexity in recursively structured systems. Using a modified canonical ensemble and Maximum Entropy principles, we show that ℘ emerges as a thermodynamic fixed point under energy constraint and recursive coherence penalty. This result unifies empirical Pareto distributions, cross-scale complexity dynamics, and the stability of conscious systems under a single statistical mechanics framework. We provide a rigorous derivation of the Recursive Coherence Index (RCI) flow equation, define cross-scale coherence, and derive measurable predictions across physics, biology, artificial intelligence, and cognition. The work concludes with the formal Pattern Attractor Axiom: Any recursively constrained system under energy minimization will self-organize to a coherence level ℘ ≈ 0.8 that maximizes entropy production while maintaining structural persistence. ℘ is no longer a statistical curiosity; it is a structural law of reality.
