What Is the World's Fastest Mammal Doing in India?
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article contrasts Iran’s ongoing struggle to protect its last Asiatic cheetahs, which face threats from road accidents, poaching, and habitat loss, with India's successful efforts to reintroduce African cheetahs from Namibia. Despite Iran’s efforts to conserve its native cheetahs, their numbers continue to decline, whereas India has made significant progress by importing African cheetahs and establishing a pioneering reintroduction program. The piece highlights how India's proactive land management and conservation initiatives have driven notable early successes, while Iran's environmental challenges hinder similar progress. Ultimately, it underscores that effective land and wildlife management are crucial for the survival and revival of these majestic animals.
