Impact of Road Expansion on Rising Accidents: A Case Study
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: - This research paper examines the paradoxical increase in road accidents following the expansion of roads in a residential area near the state highway. Through comprehensive surveys of local residents and detailed analysis of pre- and post-expansion accident data, this study seeks to identify the underlying causes of this trend. The research reveals that despite the intention to improve traffic flow and safety, road expansions can inadvertently lead to higher accident rates due to factors such as inadequate infrastructure design, poor speed management, insufficient lighting, and lack of public awareness. Key findings highlight the need for improved infrastructure, effective speed management, robust enforcement of traffic laws, and enhanced public transportation options. By addressing these areas, the study aims to provide actionable recommendations to policymakers, contractors, and transport authorities to mitigate the adverse effects of road expansion and enhance overall road safety.
