Laser Diode Optimization using Wallace-Cut Robotics
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This white paper introduces an interdisciplinary approach that adapts theWallace Cut multidirectionalengraving principles to nanoscale robotic fabrication for plasmonic photonic systems. We propose Wallace Cut Robotics — high-precision, sub-micron robotic engraving controlled byreinforcement learning — to produce tunable metasurfaces and nanogroove arrays that optimizelaser diode emission, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) coupling, and near-field manipulation. We outline theoretical foundations, fabrication and control architectures, metrology and benchmarkingstrategies, and a prototyping roadmap for validating enhanced coupling, localization, and device-level improvements.
