The Northern European People Who Call Themselves 'Secularised'

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This essay provides a rigorous, multidisciplinary evaluation of Dutch secularism as embedded in the dynamic interplay between Western cultural identity, socio-political ethics, and global power structures. Through critical historical analysis and social theory, the work uncovers the tensions and selective moral applications that characterise Dutch secular pride, especially when juxtaposed with the nation’s explicit economic and political support for Benjamin Netanyahu’s ‘Greater Israel’ project. The study situates itself at the intersection of sociology, ethics, religious studies, sionism, geopolitics, and international relations, offering deep insight into how principles are alternately suspended, manipulated, or redefined under external pressures and expedient alliances. Engaging with issues of religious conflict, postcolonial legacies, and ethno-political realities, the essay ultimately reveals the persistent undercurrents of hypocrisy and double standards shaping Northern European behaviour and policy in the present era.
