Nalysis of the Categorical Proposition Between Islamic Logic and Modern Logic: Ibn Sina as a Model

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: : Islamic-Arabic culture witnessed a profound engagement with the Greek logical heritage—a process that was not merely one of passive reception but was marked by critical analysis and development. Among the foremost Muslim logicians who contributed to this field was Sheikh al-Rais Ibn Sina, whose innovative contributions in logic are especially evident in his analysis of the categorical proposition. This study aims to compare Ibn Sina’s analysis of the categorical proposition with that of modern logic, identifying points of convergence and divergence—particularly in light of Fregean logic—by adopting a comparative analytical methodology. In doing so, we seek to highlight the most significant contributions made by Ibn Sina in his treatment of the categorical proposition alongside those advanced by the mathematician and logician Frege.
