Nuclear Accidents: An In-Depth Analysis of Historical Events and Lessons for Future Safety
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Nuclear accidents represent some of the most significant and catastrophic events in modern history, involving the unintended release of radioactive materials with severe environmental, health, economic, and social consequences. This project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the major nuclear accidents, including the Chernobyl disaster (1986), Fukushima Daiichi disaster (2011), Three Mile Island incident (1979), and the Kyshtym disaster (1957). Each of these events is examined in detail to understand their causes, which range from human error and mechanical failures to natural disasters and design flaws. The consequences of these accidents are explored, highlighting the immediate and long-term impacts on public health, environmental contamination, economic costs, and societal disruptions.
