Abstract: In director Zhang Yang’s 1999 feature length film "Shower", water is the central motif of the film and, throughout this story of family reconciliation, water embodies the essence of Taoist philosophy. In the 25 years since the release of "Shower", the regaining of balance and harmony in one’s life remains more relevant than ever.
