Addressing Educational Disparities in the Young Residents (Aged 0-18) of Granville and Vance Counties, North Carolina

Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Education access is a critical determinant of health, as limited education correlates with poor health literacy, unhealthy behaviors, and chronic disease mismanagement. In North Carolina's Granville and Vance Counties (GVC), historical systemic barriers such as racial gerrymandering and resource inequities have exacerbated educational disparities, contributing to significant health and socioeconomic challenges. A proposed equity task force aims to address these disparities by engaging stakeholders, prioritizing youth-focused interventions, and leveraging systemic changes to improve health, education, and community outcomes.
