Derrida’s philosophy of Forgiveness:

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: When international law paid attention to the gravity of the crimes of "radical evil" committed against humanity and classified them as imprescriptible, the problem of forgiveness emerged as a real challenge to the victim of radical evil. The question that arose in this context: is is Forgiveness Possible without Punishment? For Derrida, forgiveness falls outside the legal approach, outside the logic of punishment or revenge, it is essentially forgiving what is unforgivable, it is an achievement of the “im-possible” itself. It is an unconditional gift, because it transcends economic logic or any form of political or legal consensus. So, it's a radical etic.
