Abstract: The implementation of one or more repositories (in the case of the University of Milan one repository for publications and one for research data) is not enough to ensure that researchers receive the services they would need. Repositories are a piece of a complex context in which policies and evidence of their effectiveness, resources both human and economic, and training at all levels are equally important.
