A rapid warning value chain assessment for localised surface water flooding in the UK on 17th August 2022
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This case study event, part of the WMO WWRP HIWeather Value Chain project, utilizes the warning value chain rapid assessment template (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10457434) to evaluate the performance of early warning systems during a localised surface water flooding event in the UK on 17th August 2022. By applying this rapid assessment tool, the Met Office were able to save key information and conduct a basic end-to-end assessment of the warning process during a localised convective rainfall event, from initial forecast to responder community actions. The analysis highlights key strengths and areas for improvement, particularly in the generation, use, and communication of the hazard and impact-based forecasts.
