Using Life Cycle Assessment in Extended Producer Responsibility

Abstract: This is an introduction to the session "LCAs: Useful policymaking tool or laborious academic method?" in the 2024 Industrial Day international virtual conference. The session was organized by the newly formed Policy section of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (http://www.is4ie.org). This introduction describes the relationship between life cycle assessment (LCA) and extended producer responsibility (EPR) generally in order to provide context for the speakers who discussed the use of LCA in EPR in the U.S. State of Oregon later in the session.
