Educating emotions for the 21st century
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Emotional education has occupied a secondary place in Colombian education. Although efforts have been made to educate citizens, institutional efforts have not been sufficient. A balance of the years of the 21st century shows that the rates of violence in the country continue to grow, evidencing a lack of individual and collective control of emotions. This feature is associated with how violence has been inserted into the civilizing process of Colombian society. This article proposes a reflection on the articulation between emotional education and the civilizing process, concretizing the reflection in the Colombian case and proposing a possible alternative for emotional education in the coming decades.
