Electrophysiology of hearing: Everything you need to know before starting your assessments (part I) – choosing the standard deviation
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The growing use of electrophysiological methods within diagnostic batteries is evident, but there is a gap in the knowledge of some professionals about the theoretical and technical background to this important tool. Such a gap prevents a complete understanding of electrophysiology, which can impair the quality of the evaluation and, ultimately, on the diagnosis. In view of this, a special edition of our bulletin has been designed to address important topics about electrophysiological diagnosis, and here we aim to present the material in a clear and objective way. We invite you to join us on this exploration and in this bulletin we focus on an aspect that is often discussed, but not completely understood, by evaluators – the standard deviation. To do so, we need some mathematics and, more specifically, statistics.
