Thus, new technologies, such as augmented reality, can help enhancesurgical technique and reduce procedural mortality. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the impact of newteaching technologies in cardiovascular surgery. Methodology: This is a systematic review conducted on thePubMed database using the terms "augmented reality," "cardiovascular surgery," and "thoracic surgery," includingpublications from 2018 to 2023. Results: Augmented reality and virtual reality are useful in different phases ofsurgical planning, capable of assisting in pre, intra, and postoperative interventions. Discussion: Although studiesevaluating the topic are still limited, the implementation of augmented reality allows for the evaluation of morescenarios and the improvement of surgical training. They are educational and practical tools. Conclusion: Thebenefits of virtual and augmented reality in cardiovascular surgery are undeniable. They can decrease the risk ofcontamination and ensure better anatomical visualization of the heart. However, more studies are needed.
