Abstract: The purpose of this study is to unearth the effect of parents’ level of education on pupils’ academic performance in public primary schools in western area urban. The study targets an estimated number of (60) parents, teachers, and pupils drawn from (5) primary schools in the western area urban. A purposive sampling technique was used to examine the total population of parents, teachers, and pupils in the survey. The findings of the study show that most parents were living in overcrowded homes, and they found it difficult to meet their physical and emotional needs to support and positively influence the academic performance of pupils in primary schools in the western area urban district. The findings further indicated that the majority of the parents had only secondary education. This implies that the education of parents has a significant influence on pupils’ academic performance. The study recommends that the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and the Freetown Municipal Council, provide remedial adult education classes to improve the skills and knowledge of parents in other to build their capacities. The government through the Ministry of Land Housing and Country Planning builds more estates for parents at a cost recovery that meets the needs of a parent living in overcrowded homes.
