How Accurate is Google Translate? A Comparative Study of English, German, and Russian to Bangla Translations
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper presents a comparative analysis of the accuracy of Google Translate in translating sentences from English, German, and Russian to Bangla. 72 sentences were employed for testing, which included idiomatic phrases, phrases used in daily use, and academic-content. Each translation was manually compared and evaluated by native Bangla speakers based on a 1–10 scale. The findings show that Google Translate performs well with simple and academic sentences but fails every time with idioms. English-to-Bangla translations were ranked highest, followed by German and Russian. This project determines the pros and cons of current machine translation systems, which are especially relevant for highly inflected and low-resource languages like Bangla.
