Time as a Physical Field: A Dynamical Paradigm for Resolving the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and Relativity

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The nature of time remains one of the most unresolved problems in modern physics. In both general relativity and quantum mechanics, time is treated either as a geometric coordinate or an external parameter, lacking intrinsic dynamics or ontological status. This work introduces a new paradigm in which time emerges as a physical scalar field ϕ(x,t), giving rise to a locally generated temporal flow τ(x,t) via nonlinear transformation. This framework unifies and reinterprets several fundamental issues: the speed of light as an effective property of the time field; quantum entanglement as a resonance between temporal structures; decoherence as a manifestation of temporal field fluctuations; and the arrow of time as an emergent directionality of field interactions. We derive the dynamics of ϕ from a generalized field equation with a symmetry-breaking potential and propose experimental paths for its detection via photonic delays, gravitational phase shifts, and quantum coherence degradation. This approach reframes the deep questions of causality, information, and spacetime structure in terms of a single, dynamic, and testable physical entity — time itself.
