Abstract: An Outline of Geothermal Research in Tuscany is a brochure presenting the research activities of the Institute of Geosciences and Georesources (IGG-CNR) in the field of geothermal energy, with a particular focus on the Tuscany region. After an introduction to IGG-CNR’s activities, the document explores the history and current applications of geothermal energy in Larderello and it provides an overview of the geology of Tuscany’s main geothermal areas (Larderello, Mount Amiata, and Elba Island). Special attention is given to characteristic landscapes such as the "Biancane" area and to environmental management strategies for geothermal plants.
