A Review On Carcinogenecity Of Artificial Food Coloring Agents

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT Aim: To investigate the relationship between feed color additive and cancer risk .Exploring potential mechanical and informing public health guideline to minimize exposure to carcinogenic colorant in commonly consumed processed foods. Objective: · Investigate the link between food color additive and cancer incidence · Identify specific colorants associated with increased cancer risk · Explore potential mechanism underlying colorant –induc0ed carcinogenesis. Methods: In-vitro methods used in cell cultures to assess the genotoxic and cytoxic effects of artificial food colouring agents. It is use of techniques such as micronucleus test to assess DNA damage caused by artificial food coloring agents. In-vitro methods use of animal models (Eg:Mice,Rats) to assess the carcinogenic potential of artificial food coloring agent. RESULT 1. Positive correlation found between food color additives and increased risks of: · Breast cancer (RR:123.p,< 0.01) · Bladder cancer(RR:132.p,<0.01) · Colon cancer (RR:117.p< 0.05) · Lung cancer (RR:121.p<0.01) 2. Specific colorants associated with increased cancer risk Red 40 · Yellow 5 · Yellow 6 · Blue 1 3. Potential mechanisms underlying colorant-induced carcinogenesis: · DNA damage · Oxidative stress · Inflammation.
