Resolving Apathy to Missions Through Transformational Leadership Approach
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Christian missions is facing apathy in many churches because of reduced passion for missions and indifference to the Great Commission task, which is the primary mandate of the Church. Situations and challenges in the world reduced emphasis and allocation for Missions, misrepresentation of scriptures about missions, cultural diversities, competitiveness with other churches, the fanatical label of proselytisation, secularism and religious relativism have contributed to the lack of fervour and passivity in the Church’s missions to reach the people for Christ. The article utilised literature to look into resolving apathy through the transformational leadership approach by discussing an overview of apathy to missions, defining transformational leadership, elucidating its components, highlighting its limitations and applying it to the problem of apathy in missions in church leadership. Church leaders should apply transformational leadership principles of idealised influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualised considerations to resolve mission apathy. In his days, William Carey used the approach to stimulate world missions. Church leaders with transformational leadership competencies will be able to ignite strong participation in missions among their members.
