Abstract: Glucose is a primary source of energy for the body’s cells. It is a simple sugar (monosaccharide) that is absorbed into the bloodstream after the digestion of carbohydrates from foods. Here’s how glucose functions as an energy source: Absorption and Transport: After consuming carbohydrates, they are broken down into glucose in the digestive system. Glucose enters the bloodstream, where it is transported to cells throughout the body. Cellular Uptake: Cells take up glucose from the bloodstream via insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin facilitates the entry of glucose into cells, especially muscle and fat cells. Glycolysis: Inside the cell, glucose undergoes glycolysis, a process that breaks it down into pyruvate while producing a small amount of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell.
